Parlour Talk

Amy Barkman is not a psychologist or licensed therapist. She does not offer psychological counseling. However she believes the Word of God gives wise counsel and she offers times for the ministry of the Word through a process she calls Wordtherapy.

The following are real questions asked by individuals who needed real insight. The answers are not word-for-word spoken by God, but they are a paraphrase of the insight given during the encounter. Scripture follows the answer because all true wisdom must be in harmony with the written Word of God. Some answers God gives are very personal and apply only to the individual but most are universal in their application to all humans. Perhaps you will see some needed truth in these answers from God during Wordtherapy times. Feel free to write with your own questions and Amy will pray over them and trust God with you for a Wordtherapy healing for your need.

Q.
I know that God has forgiven me but I can’t forgive myself. What can I do?

A.
First you need to recognize that most of the time, even though it may feel like humility, there is some pride at the bottom of the inability to forgive yourself. All humans are weak and prone to sin and mistakes. To forgive yourself requires that you recognize your basic nature of fallen humanity and not have the attitude that “though others might make that mistake, I should not have”. You are no better than others. Jesus died for you as well as for the rest of humanity. True humility is recognizing your need for His sacrifice on your behalf. "When you truly know that you did not deserve for Him to die for you, you can praise Me for My mercy and grace and receive forgiveness. When you really receive My forgiveness, not just know about it mentally, your own forgiveness for yourself is a part of what you receive from Me."

“For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God; being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:23,24

Q.
Isn’t it true that my sinful choice messed up God’s plan for my life?

A.
"My Redemption Plan for your life was based on your sinful choices. I sit outside of time and space and see all the choices made from the beginning to the end. Because of what Jesus did, Redemption power is available throughout all time and space so that at any moment, any person coming to me, can receive freedom from the destructive results of wrong choices made by them or by others."

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death….And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose….For I am persuaded that neither death nor life nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:1,2, 28,38,39
